Tutor helping struggling child with math and science
10/24/2014
It’s long been known that a healthy body is a healthy mind. The Tutoring Center in Oro Valley would like to present you with a few tips for ensuring that your child’s diet is helping them excel.

Fats

Avoid ‘bad’ fats, which include saturated fat, hydrogenated fats, and trans fats. These are found in high levels in processed foods. Instead, provide your child with ‘good’ mono- and polyunsaturated fats, found in good-quality butter, oily fish, and nuts and seeds.

Sugar

Your child needs energy, but try to avoid giving it to them in the form of refined sugar, found in high levels in sodas, candies and processed foods. As an alternative treat, try offering fruit.

Fruit and vegetables

It’s vital for your child’s development that they get enough fruit and vegetables, as these are the prime source for the vitamins and minerals your child needs. Make sure that every meal includes a couple of portions of fruit and/or veg.

Whole grains

Whole grains are a good choice of carbohydrate because they release energy over time and can help ensure that your child’s blood sugar remain stable, aiding focus and concentration. They are also richer in useful substances such as folic acid, and are overall a much healthier choice than the refined alternatives.

You don’t only have influence over your child’s diet, you can also help them in other areas such as preparing for their SATs. If you’re looking to maximize your child’s academic success, The Tutoring Center is here to help your child with any area of struggle and we have several programs in place to assist them.
